The Office comes to NBC

I finally remembered to hunt this down and it looks like the NBC version of the BBC hit show "The Office" is launching March 24th at 9.30pm/8.30pm CT.  I'm setting my TiVO in the hope that they do a better job than they did with Coupling.  Steve Carell takes the place of Ricky Gervais as office manager and what looks like a good supporting cast.

The video clips on the site are worth a watch and the site is well done...

  1. Why is it that Americans have to make a pale copy of a great British original (ie Three's A Crowd:Robin's Nest, Three's Company:Man About the House, All In the Family:Till Death Us Do Part - and more, sorry I can only remember the oldies) for their own local consumption, why not just show The Office - there can only be one Ricky Gervais.

  2. Because average Americans don't know much of anything out past Wal-Mart. Even England is considered "exotic" there.

I live in Asia and just came across the Office on dvd last week for the first time, incredibly funny, and a tepid NBC version sounds just awful.

  3. Btw, that website is crap: I have WMP 10 installed and working fine, but it says I don't have WMP 9 and ActiveX (which I do), so won't play.

  4. I dont' know. Ricky Gervais did such an awesome job iin the original. plus there's more adult jokes in the BBC version.

  5. I'm so not looking forward to this...mostly because the NBC-afied Coupling was just abysmal. Who knows, maybe because I have such horribly low expectations I won't be that disappointed.

  6. Hmm, video's are not accessible for Mac users, the NBC site is doing an ActiveX detect before allowing you to see the Media Player files...

  7. I actually have WMP 9 yet it says I don't!

Note to NBC: There's this neat little app. called "Flash", and well golly gosh it plays video don't you know - and BTW it runs on heaps of platforms too.

What's the bet that NBC's version of The Office will end up on Channel 10 in Australia?

  8. I have a problem understanding British accents, so I'm glad that they are making an American version. But, now that I know that its based on something non-American I won't be watching it.

  9. bobared, that's probably because you are extremely ignorant of the world around you?

  10. Some people just don't have a sense of humor, I guess.

  11. Seems that Aussie viewers were a little discerning, the US version was canned after two episodes: http://www.smh.com.au/news/tv--radio/axed-its-office-politics/2005/06/28/1119724625231.html
