My First Office

I'm delighted to announce that I've made a leap forward in my consulting business and have opened my first office.  Well, technically, it was already opened and I'm in a shared space with some other people.

I originally looked last October when I started my business but thought I would play it safe until I had some revenue under my belt.  Yesterday I met with the accountant and closed the books on a very successful 2007 so with the spring in my step and Cameron's timely post about coworking locations, I jumped in.

I'll post some better pics on my flickr site in the next few days because the coolest part is the roof top deck: it overlooks the El tracks here in Chicago and you can see the city skyline in all it's glory.  Oh, and did I mention that there is an old silver camper van on the roof they hoisted up there when started?

  1. Congratulations on the success of your business, Adam!

I'm not familiar with Cameron, could you provide a link to the post about coworking? I currently work from home (Downers Grove, IL) , although not for my own business, but for a company that is based in California. I believe that it would be good to get out of the house, if only a few times a month, to expand connections with people and be able to discuss the goings on of the tech world as well as the wider world in general.

Speaking of getting out and about, due to a previously scheduled trip, I'm sorry to say that I'll be missing your presentation at the Chicago Area Adobe User Group ( http://augchicago.org/ ) on January 21st. If you plan on sharing your slides afterwards, I'd much appreciate taking a look through them.

  2. Thanks Danilo! I've just updated the post to link Cameron's blog post. I had intended to do that but in my excitement I hit publish too soon! You can see the last time I presented on the Google Tech stuff up on slideshare: http://www.slideshare.net/webcontent2007/adam-howitt-using-google-tools-to-optimize-content-for-business-results

  3. Thanks for the link. So I drilled down into the Google Maps link that Cameron had and I'm guessing that you're at the Ravenswood Loft location, at least based on drilling down into the Satellite view where you can make out the trailer on the roof:

How did you get in touch with the folks that run the coworking office, did you just drop by the location during the day? Ok, just found the website with a quick search: http://coworking.pbwiki.com/CoworkingChicagoRavenswood

I'll have to keep this in mind if I need a break.

  4. Damn, I submitting this to the redneck yard...er..roof of the week.
